"What motivates me? I love to figure things out, to sink my teeth into a challenge and know that no problem will defeat me. It’s why I love being an attorney. Every day is a new challenge, a new problem just waiting for me to get to the solution. Taking that solution to court and coming out on top, to my clients’ benefit, is what drives me."

 Joseph Baker

Joseph Baker

Growing up in rural Michigan, Joseph Baker loved running cross-country and solving riddles, but wasn’t too sure about life in a rural town. Joseph started looking for a place that better-suited his personality and desire to positively affect his community. After earning his Bachelor of Science in political science from Norther Michigan University, Joseph and his wife found their niche and settled in Northeast Ohio. Joseph's spent his time since then solving riddles for his clients and working to improve the community around him.

In 1996, Joseph earned his Bachelor of Science in political science from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Michigan; in 2000, he earned his Juris Doctor from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland, Ohio.

Joseph has been practicing law, mostly as a litigator, for more than 15 years. Joseph spent his early years at Cleveland firms Wulliger, Fadel & Beyer, LLC and Janik & Dorman, LLC working on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants in many aspects of the law ranging, from products liability claims to broker/dealers securities and business litigation. During this time, Joseph also developed a passion for defending individuals charged with white-collar crimes. In the past nine years, Joseph has served as an attorney and partner with Giffen & Kaminski, LLC, practicing banking and commercial litigation, defending employment claims, and expanding his white-collar criminal defense practice.

A well-respected litigator and seasoned trial lawyer with an incisive legal mind, Joseph brings a nuanced understanding to complex legal issues. It is this, along with his insider’s experience, that has led him to an impressive record of success.

Joseph is admitted to practice before the following courts:

  • Supreme Court of Ohio;
  • United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio;
  • United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio;
  • United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Ohio; and
  • Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Though he’s an avid Cubs fan, Joseph and his family have adopted Northeast Ohio as their home. Together with his wife Sharon, Director of Hathaway Brown Middle School in Shaker Heights, Joseph is raising his twin boys, Nolan and Cooper, in Chagrin Falls and is committed to making his community the best it can be. Joseph believes wholeheartedly that to ‘see the change, you’ve got to be change,’ and does his part, volunteering his time as an attorney for The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland and as a mentor for the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law
